Senior Project Engineer

Job Overview We seek a skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. Reporting to the Head of Projects and COO where required, you will play a key role in leading the design and technical execution of our projects.
Responsibilities
1.Strategic Technical Leadership
● Provide oversight during opportunity screening phases, including advanced technical feasibility assessments and system optimization strategies.
● Lead the development of standardized engineering methodologies, tools, and best practices across projects.
2.Advanced Design and Engineering Oversight
● Supervise and review design activities during development and execution phases, ensuring compliance with international standards and project-specific requirements.
● Produce and approve:
○ Helioscope designs, HOMER simulations, load analysis reports, equipment specifications, and system sizing recommendations.
○ Interconnection drawings, single-line diagrams, bid sets, construction sets, and as-built drawings.
● Ensure value engineering is applied to deliver cost-effective, high-performance systems aligned with client and regulatory expectations.
3.Contractor & Stakeholder Engagement
● Lead technical due diligence on contractors, reviewing engineering submissions and assessing competency during selection processes.
● Provide experienced input during contract negotiations on technical and performance parameters.
● Act as the primary technical point of contact for EPC contractors, internal technical teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
4.Project Delivery & Risk Management
● Oversee technical risk management throughout design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
● Ensure performance parameters are achieved and sites meet or exceed expected generation and reliability benchmarks.
● Lead inspections, snagging, testing, and commissioning with authority to approve final acceptance, ensuring technical documentation is complete and verified.
5.Asset Management and O&M Support
● Support asset management by guiding monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventive/reactive maintenance strategies.
● Provide root cause analysis of technical failures and recommend long-term solutions for performance optimization.
6.Mentorship & Team Development
● Mentor and guide Project Engineers and junior staff, building internal technical capacity.
● Contribute to departmental training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Desired Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
● At least 5 years of professional experience in engineering in solar PV, renewable energy or electrical engineering within the construction or energy sector.
● Strong knowledge of medium voltage power systems, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and protective devices.
● Excellent knowledge of PV and electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVSyst, Homer etc.
● Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with attention to technical detail and deadlines.

● Strong team Leadership Skills
● Proficiency in electrical codes, regulations, and safety practices, as well as the ability to interpret and develop electrical drawings and technical documentation.
● Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, along with strong communication skills.
● Possession of relevant Kenya electrical licenses including PEng, T3, C1 or B is a plus.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing.
● Knowledgeable in commonly used construction and maintenance contracts, budget tracking, financial planning, and reporting.
