Energy Programme

The South African energy sector is a fast paced and exciting sector. GreenCape’s energy program is a nationally relevant program. We are internationally recognised, we work across all three tiers of government, engage multi-national and local private sector players and drive impact in the South African economy. You can be part of the energy future you want to see for South Africa, grow your influence, network and get international exposure.

Purpose of the job

This role will focus on building GreenCape’s technical expertise in the African Energy Sector. The candidate will have a chance to influence the direction of South Africa’s energy future.

Job details

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:


  • Engineering, Economics, Finance, Resource Management, Environmental Sciences or other relevant degree.

Project Delivery, Support & Reporting

  • No prior work experience is required;
  • Postgraduate degree preferred;
  • Interest in a career in the green economy;
  • Computer literate- MS Office with a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel;
  • Proven Troubleshooting and problem solving ability;
  • Previous; and
  • Written content related to the Green Economy advantageous i.e. news thesis, feature articles etc.).

Competencies and Skills

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with confidence in both formal and informal public speaking engagements;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Flexibility and the willingness to contribute to other organisational needs when required;
  • Ability to self-manage, multi-task and to prioritise; and
  • Innovative and driven.

Contract length and remuneration

This is a contract position. Contract renewal will depend on performance and the organizations requirements at the time. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.

Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation. Medical aid is offered as an employee benefit (subject to some conditions).

Offers made will take qualifications, experience and level of responsibility into account.
