About GreenCape

GreenCape is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of the green economy – one that is low carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive. We assist green technology businesses and investors focusing on green technologies and services to remove barriers to investment and growth.

Circular Economy Programme

Broadly speaking a circular economy is an economic system that seeks to eliminate waste and pollution, keep products and materials in circulation, and regenerate natural systems. GreenCape recognises the traction circularity economy gained as a concept. As a leading organisation supporting the development of the green economy, GreenCape is adding to its capacity to deliver on circular economy projects.

The South African Plastics Pact

The South African Plastics Pact is led by GreenCape’s circular economy team to drive progress towards a circular economy for plastics in South Africa.

The South African (SA) Plastics Pact is a pre-competitive collaboration of organisations across the plastics value chain, as well as supporting members with national influence in policy, legislation, certain industry sectors, academia and civil society. The role of the SA Plastics Pact team is to facilitate member engagements to drive progress towards the four ambitious 2025 targets, to support members in their decision-making progress through technical guidance and strategic information to highlight the need for a circular economy for plastics.

Purpose of the job

An inclusive approach to developing a circular economy is a key need in South Africa’s economic development trajectory. The Analyst will facilitate conversations between diverse role players to drive inclusivity in the design and implementation of our circular economy in (largely) packaging materials. The role players the Analyst will engage with include the private sector (brand owners, retailers, and waste management companies among others), local and national government officials, producer responsibility organisations, and the informal sector.

The Analyst will be responsible for data analysis and reporting for the SA Plastics Pact, as well as supporting a group of business members to implement actions needed to improve circularity in their organisations, and be instrumental in guiding the action groups as teams of members collaboratively problem-solving and defining specific actions to drive progress towards targets.
