Energy Programme

The South African energy sector is a fast paced and exciting sector. GreenCape’s energy program is a nationally relevant program. We are internationally recognised, we work across all three tiers of government, engage multi-national and local private sector players and drive impact in the South African economy. The Expert Analyst will be exposed to a wide range of projects in the energy field, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and smart grids. This role aims to provide technical and economic skills to the energy team. The candidate must have a passion for the South African renewable energy market and be interested in travelling around the world.

Purpose of the job

This role will focus on building GreenCape’s technical expertise in the African Energy Sector. The candidate will have a chance to influence the direction of South Africa’s energy future.

Job details

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

Qualification/Education

  • Postgraduate degree, masters preferred (and relevant work experience) in Engineering, Economics, Finance or Resource Management.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 5 years’ relevant experience
  • Working knowledge in business development and/or green technologies;
  • Existing network within the sector;
  • Leading projects in the energy sector and formulating and directing the team at achieving results;
  • Proven track record of converting opportunities into funded projects; and
  • Implementation experience in developing renewable energy projects.

Competencies and Skills

  • Have strong communication skills (written and verbal), with confidence in both formal and informal public speaking engagements;
  • Be able to confidently initiate and foster productive, professional relationships with many stakeholders, including business, funders and government;
  • Possess problem-solving skills and an ability to identify, understand and define interventions to drive and grow markets;
  • Proactivity and confidence in own initiatives; and
  • Strong analytical skills.

Contract length and remuneration

This is a contract position. Contract renewal will depend on performance and the organizations requirements at the time. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.

Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation. Medical aid is offered as an employee benefit (subject to some conditions).

Offers made will take qualifications, experience and level of responsibility into account.
