For over 20 years, Globeleq has invested in, developed, owned, and operated a diversified portfolio of power projects across Africa, establishing itself as one of the continent’s largest independent power producers. With nearly 1800MW of generation capacity in operation across 18 power plants in 7 countries, 641MW of new power projects in construction and >3,000MW in development, Globeleq is one of the largest independent power producers solely focused on Africa. Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, the development finance institutions of the UK and Norway, and has a proven track record in the African power sector.

Globeleq’s generation portfolio includes wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), hydro, geothermal, hybrid projects, and gas. Projects may originate from greenfield or brownfield development, expansions, bid and award in competitive tenders, bilateral negotiations with key stakeholders, partnerships & joint ventures, acquisitions and restructurings.

To support the Business Development team in South Africa and London, and the company’s growth in South Africa, Globeleq is now seeking to recruit a high calibre candidate with a proven track record of delivery and outstanding capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing and supportive team, who has been at the centre of innovation for the company over the last 15 years and is implementing transformational projects across Africa.

This role will support senior management and lead key workstreams including the origination, development, structuring, execution, acquisition, and financial close of renewable energy and energy transition projects across Southern Africa, with a particular focus on South Africa.

The role will focus on leading the development of projects, including greenfield projects, competitive tenders and/or acquisitions. The Business Development Manager will lead projects or key workstreams, from the early stages to financial close, and drive the full cycle project development, including permitting, conducting and coordinating due diligence, managing consultants, negotiating with key project parties (including landowners, early stage developers, lenders, offtakers and construction contractors), managing project budgeting and scheduling, overseeing the financial model, managing full bid submissions, preparing and presenting internal investment committee memos, managing key internal and external stakeholders, and driving the financing workstreams with the company’s specialist financing team.

Some national and international travel is likely, and the role will entail active engagement with team members in South Africa and across the Globeleq network of offices, including our London office.
