Globeleq’s various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and geothermal. The company is also actively pursuing new opportunities which are emerging from the energy transition, including desalination projects powered by renewables, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia projects.
Globeleq is a leading independent power producer operating and developing power projects in Africa. In South Africa, Globeleq owns and operates eight renewable energy power plants across the country and are in construction with what will be the largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Africa.
Entities under management include eight operating renewable energy assets, one in construction and associated services and holding companies in South Africa. Further entities may be added over time.
The Country Manager, Finance is responsible for the financial leadership of the South African portfolio. He/She provides strategic leadership, management and hands-on involvement in the business planning, accounting, insurance and procurement activities of the South African business.
This role is based in Cape Town and requires occasional national and international travel.

Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for leading, delegating and managing the financial, project finance and insurance workstreams for holding, construction, operating and service entities in South Africa

- Attends and presents information at various internal meetings (GSAMS and Globeleq)
- Manages the financial interface with Globeleq’s corporate head office, including monthly calls to discuss and review performance
- Supports HR with regards to Payroll and Payroll Administration
- Assist with business development activity in South Africa, especially with regards to tax, corporate structuring, accounting and financial modelling inputs
- Directs commercial analysis for high value projects and supports the internal team in negotiation and decision-making processes
- Undertakes ad hoc finance responsibilities in support of the local Management Team and Globeleq Group, as appropriate
- Oversees and co-ordinates insurance program including renewal and optimisation
- Support Technical Director and Asset Managers with insurance claims
- Manage claims tracking process
- Leads and directs the budget process including reviewing inputs and assumptions, setting budget parameters, identifying key focus areas, and developing processes to improve future budgets
- Leads continuous analysis of the operating financial model to determine the value impact of budgeting and operating decisions
- Ensures relevant budget reports are completed i.e. P&L, Cash to Group, etc.
- Identify areas where accounting policies and systems require further development
- Review and sign off policies prepared by the finance team for distribution
- Continuously improve controls for payments and disbursements
- Drive analysis of management info including dashboards using the ERP system
- Manage Operating Cash Flow and Cash Flow Forecasts
- Proactively manage cash flow forecasts for all operating entities under management
- Identify activities to improve the accuracy of cash flow forecasts.
- Reviews the finance team’s work including month end journals and trial balances, VAT returns, Tax returns, Cover Ratios, etc.
- Ensures accurate reporting of monthly financial performance of South African businesses to Globeleq Group is provided within the required timeframes and includes the required level of detailed budget variance analysis
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of annual audited financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), meeting Globeleq Group, statutory and where applicable lender requirements
- Manages and drives activities of the Audit & Risk Committees of the different businesses. Have overall responsibility for maintenance of relationship with both internal and external audit functions
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of tax return and acts as the Public Officer for specified entities. Monitors specified company tax (income tax, VAT, PAYE, etc.) compliance requirements, deadlines and status
- Accountable for managing key stakeholders including shareholders, lenders, auditors, audit committees and boards

- Previous project finance or power sector experience preferable
