To support the company’s growth across Africa, Globeleq is now seeking to recruit an Associate Development Engineer.

The Associate Development Engineer works within the Engineering team to assist with the management, development and construction of renewable energy (primarily wind and solar), energy storage systems, and hybrid power generation projects across Africa. The projects may be at greenfield, part-developed or operations phase. The Associate Development Engineering will support the E&C team members in all project development activities including resource data management, conceptual design, yield assessments, due diligence, technical development, cost assessments, tendering, contract preparation and construction monitoring. The role will also be required to manage third-party contractors and contracts.

Main Responsibilities

  • Modelling renewable resources using third-party software (e.g. WindPro, WAsP, Homer, PVCase and PVSyst) or in-house models to estimate and optimise production through plant design.
  • Identify and mitigate spatial risks using GIS software.
  • Management of meteorological stations and databases.
  • Review and perform indicative plant design using computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD/Sketchup.
  • Developing performance models (in house or using 3rd Parties) to be used in the project proforma for the proposed facility.
  • Developing estimates of construction costs for project modelling purposes.
  • Identification and recommendation for mitigation & management of all technical risks.
  • Participating in due diligence site visits to assess the suitability, feasibility and risks associated with potential plant sites.
  • Investigate environmentally, permitting, and social issues and ensure that they are considered and mitigated during project development.
  • Providing and validating technical inputs into the project model.
  • Manage tendering processes for contractors and advisors.
  • Assist with the preparation of contract documents.
  • Managing outside technical consultants and engineers contracted to provide services as resources to the project team.
  • Assisting the Engineering team in all development and construction activities.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Educational background in renewables (particularly solar, wind and BESS).
  • Professional experience in the renewable industry as an Associate Development Engineer, developer, consultant, or site representative.
  • Prior experience in design and yield analysis software is preferable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
