Globeleq is an experienced international power plant owner and operator with operations in seven countries across the continent. In South Africa, Globeleq owns and operates eight renewable energy (RE) power plants in both wind and solar power which are part of the REIPPP Programme.

The Senior ED & ESG Analyst will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing systems for Economic Development (ED) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting for multiple Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in South Africa. The role involves collaborating across various departments including Finance, Operations, Human Resources, Commercial and Legal teams to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and internal sustainability objectives.

The position will be based in Cape Town, with travel as and when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management:
  • Collecting social, environmental and health & safety performance data from all operational assets.
  • Collecting HR, Operations, Finance and Development Impact data for the Annual Monitoring Report (AMR).
  • Implementing data collection systems for GHG emissions and completing annual GHG Emissions accounting.
  • Managing the submission and uploading of data for quarterly IPP Office reporting
  • Providing the data to the ESG Operations and Biodiversity Manager and Group Health, Safety and Security Manager and Economic Development Director that enables them to drive continuous improvement of operational assets.
  • Design, develop, and maintain internal data collection systems to support sustainability and compliance reporting, internal processes and procedures; facilitating integration between IFS, Trimax and SharePoint.
  • Supporting the operational assets with procedures and processes to enable them to efficiently collect quality data.
  • Work closely with the Business Intelligence Division to ensure continuous improvements in data management, data quality, integrity, and accuracy to drive strategic insights.
Reporting:
  • Managing monthly reporting frameworks, reviewing monthly reporting, providing feedback to assets and work with operations teams to resolve issues.
  • Managing quarterly IPPO reporting; including liaising with the Trimax system manager to ensure accuracy of data as per the Implementation Agreement requirements.
  • Compiling and managing stakeholder reporting, for example, NERSA; PIC and other lender reports as request.
  • Consolidating the Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) and social performance reports to enable tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Collecting written disclosures for the AMR from all operational assets.
  • Establishing reporting frameworks for the Economic Development team.
  • Establishing long term contractor data initiatives to manage, report and evaluate contractor performance.
Management and coordination of ESG and IPPO Audits:
  • Develop and implement audit trails that will enable efficient data management and reduce the time spent on compilation of reports.
  • Responding to audit queries as they arise, coordinating with relevant team.
  • Training internal team members responsible for the various elements of the Implementation Agreement compliance.
  • Managing adhoc IPPO clarification notes and request for supporting documents and data.
Performance analysis:
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to enforce improved business strategy and sustainability initiatives within compliance and legal requirements.
  • Providing annual GHG emissions performance analysis.
  • Articulating Sustainability Performance and providing feedback to the ESG team; Management and ESSG Committee.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of corporate environmental, social and H&S targets.
ED Budget planning, management and control
  • Work with the ED Specialist and Finance team to track quarterly and annual spend obligations.
  • Monitor performance and highlight deviations for decision-making
  • Compile annual budgets and lead AOP/Annual Budget process for ED cost centres

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A primary degree or equivalent NQF level in Finance/ Development Finance/Auditing with a strong numeracy bias
  • Three to five years’ experience in economic development monitoring, sustainability/ESG reporting or development impact measurement & evaluation and reporting, ideally within the mining, energy or industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge:
o Monitoring and Evaluation systems development
o Reporting systems development and management
  • Exposure to and knowledge of:
    o Microsoft office 365 suite
    o PowerBI
    o ESG reporting
  • Exposure to and knowledge of the ESG reporting sector is advantageous, incl reporting/disclosure frameworks such as the GRI, ISSB, CSRD, CDP.
