Overview of the role
Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet’s goals are bold and audacious. We recognize that the path to a just energy transition worldwide will be complex, non-linear, and filled with successes and opportunities, alongside failures and challenges. The Manager of Impact, Africa will support our effort to measure our contribution to impact through evaluations, monitoring and learning. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) is embedded within our operating model, to ensure that we have ear to the ground so we remain responsive and opportunistic, whilst generating insights that supports continuous improvement.
Stepping into a start- up environment, the Impact Manager for Africa will be a key player in leading monitoring, evaluation and learning Africa portfolio guided by the organization’s Impact framework. They will be responsible for independently establishing the routine and long-term work component of these workstreams, ensuring that they are efficiently managed and executed.
Accountabilities
- Monitoring: Providing backend impact data quality assurance for all Africa transactions. Provide technical advice on target setting, indicators, theory of change mechanisms, causality links for the African portfolio. Onboard and train program teams on results monitoring sheets – ensuring compliance. They will also support monitoring function globally as needs arise.
- Evaluation: Sourcing and managing independent evaluation partners working closely with the Director of Evaluation. Establishing the pulse on what needs evaluation and when by closely working with the Africa teams in sourcing evaluation questions. Selecting fit for purpose evaluation approaches and tools and sense checking their design and functionality.
- Learning: Support the team in designing and managing ongoing reflection, sense-making, and learning from the work to inform potential shifts in strategy when necessary, using data and evidence to rationalize change.
- Capacity building: Onboarding, training and operationalizing Impact functions in country teams, solution teams and hiring monitoring evaluation and learning consultants. Ensuring that all requirements per the Impact framework are met in the investment cycle for all African programs.
- Systems integration: Ensuring the internal Global Energy Alliance systems tracking progress on program implementation, financial execution and impact measuring are integrating, working in close collaboration with the IT systems manager, the management teams for country programs and scalable solutions and the Investment team.
- Advisory function: Advising global Impact colleagues and external technical providers by ground truthing Africa portfolio realities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 7-10 years expertise in monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
- Advanced degree in relevant subjects such as economics, public policy, or similar areas with strong training in evaluation, monitoring and learning.
- Experience in developing best-in-class monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches including designing and establishing these systems from scratch. Ideal experience gained in a complex organizational environment.
- Substantial experience of monitoring, evaluation and learning in the context of climate and energy programs, and/or programs driving systems change Experience with contribution analysis will be a plus.
- Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants to ensure value for money and quality actionable outcomes.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong writing skills.
- Demonstrated experience with MS Excel, STATA or similar statistical packages.
- Experience with PowerBI or other dashboard tools, AI, and experience with data engineering will be a plus.

The annual salary for this role starts from USD 80,000 negotiable based on level of experience
