Equatorial Power Limited has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. With operations in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC, EP develops and maintains mini-grid projects which address the energy, water and agro-value chain needs of rural communities.

Location: Kampala, with possibility of moving to sites of operations

Job Summary: As a Design Engineer, you are responsible for the technical design of Equatorial Power’s installations. This will entail utilizing surveys to determine the customer needs and value chain requirements in order to define the most efficient system, both economically and technically.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Design: Designing optimal systems for all Equatorial Power’s installations.

• Design Improvement: Utilizing data and feedback given to continuously improve the operational and future installations.

• Innovation: Continuously exploring innovations relevant to Equatorial Power’s business model

Tasks:

• Develop and improve the technical design process including standardizing tools and templates

• Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve solar design objectives

• Design and review technical designs of all Equatorial Power’s installations

• Prepare detailed design documents like single line diagrams, construction sets, BOQs

• Support the implementation team in the configuration and troubleshooting of systems

• Provide technical direction during installation, start-up, testing and system commissioning

• Communicate with stakeholders on performance guarantees and standards

• Support work on the business model to ensure technical and economic feasibility of the solutions

• Perform analysis of data from the field in order to understand customer and value chain needs

• Support EP in exploring low cost innovative solutions while delivering high quality projects

• Support the technical and customer operations teams to improve service delivery

• Pursue opportunities to develop skills and capacity is encouraged

Successful applicants must have:

• Technical background and a strong foundation in renewable energy.

• At least 3-5 years of experience in designing off-grid and/or on-grid solar PV based systems

• Post-Graduate qualification in a related Engineering field

• Willingness to travel to operations sites in UG, RW and DRC and potential expansion countries

• Alignment with EP purpose and values like having a growth Mindset, maintaining high standards of excellence and strong team-work ethic.
