What You Can Expect
ENGIE North America is hiring a Area Technician Lead to support the operation and maintenance of our renewable energy assets in our West region. As the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Lead Technician you will serve as a key resource for field services activities at one or more of our other renewable energy assets BESS within the West region. Due to the regional support nature of this role, you will need to reside within one hour near Odessa, TX.
In this leadership role, you will guide field technicians, coordinate high-voltage activities, and perform complex diagnostics and repairs. Your expertise will be essential in driving safety, efficiency, and compliance across all site operations, while mentoring team members and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You will serve as the liaison between business management and the field team.
Your Daily Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Provide operational and maintenance support for ENGIE’s renewable energy assets across the West region, including short-notice response
- Manage safety and compliance processes, including permits to work, Job Safety Plans (JSPs), Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), risk assessments, and site safety orientations.
- Oversee plant operations and maintenance programs (preventive, corrective, and emergency), including work orders, vendor coordination, and spare parts inventory to meet contractual and budget requirements.
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly work plans; monitor site performance using SCADA and diagnostic tools to ensure optimal operations.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on BESS equipment (batteries, PCS, transformers, and cooling systems) using standard tools and testing equipment.
- Coordinate switching and clearance orders with the Remote Operations Control Center (ROCC) and utilities; ensure compliance with service agreements and monitor third-party work quality.
- Train and support technicians, maintain documentation and inventory, execute Maximo work orders, and supervise site visitors and contractors to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum of five (5) experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), or electrical experience or comparable industrial experience such as Power Sector industry, Military experience working with diesel generators or power systems, or Oil & Gas industry experience with maintenance/service experience of heavy machinery is beneficial in lieu of battery storage experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in a related industry using similar skillsets and training
- Advanced level skills using standard hand tools and electrical testing equipment (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, battery powered drills/impacts, multimeters, amp clamps)
- Expert level knowledge in AC/DC voltage, general electrical theory ,reading of one line- and three-line schematics
- Experience in Operation & maintenance of electrical equipment such as AC/DC breakers, AC/DC disconnects, MV transformers, NO/NC contactors, and relays
- Possess or be able to obtain appropriate level of substation training and/or certifications within 12 months of hire date
- Available for on-call duties as required
- A willingness to work night shifts and extended hours, often outdoors in extreme heat or cold
- Readiness to walk, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Additional Details
- This is a field position requiring daily travel to ENGIE sites
- Must be available to travel domestically to support other support operations at other ENGIE Renewable Generation (BESS) sites
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; to drive company vehicle for the ability to drive to site locations
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;
- This position consists of 70% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
Compensation
Hourly Range: $42.00 – $55.00 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
