Job Description – Electrical Technicians (G1, G2, G3)
Department:
Operations & Maintenance – Electrical Systems
Reporting To: Supervisor / Engineer
Location: Yas Island
Job Purpose:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of electrical infrastructure across Yas Island, including 11kV substations, RMUs, feeder panels, transformers, SCADA, protection relays, streetlighting, and LV/MV networks. Electricians shall ensure asset uptime, respond to failures, and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance activities in compliance with SLA, HSE, and KPI frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform O&M activities for electrical systems such as transformers, splice switches, RMUs, feeder panels, ACBs, VCBs, SCADA terminals, and lighting assets.
- Conduct technical rounds, inspections, and log asset performance in CMMS.
- Execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and attend reactive/corrective breakdowns.
- Participate in emergency and contingency responses related to electrical faults.
- Maintain compliance with electrical design, operational manuals, and approved switching procedures.
- Escalate faults, defects, and near misses as per site escalation protocols.
- Ensure compliance with QHSE standards, risk assessments, and use of PPE.
- Guide junior technicians in safety and best practices (G1 & G2).
- Interface with other departments (mechanical, HVAC, civil) during cross-functional troubleshooting.
- Perform energy metering, lighting control, earthing verification, and cable routing inspections.

Skills Required:
- Ability to read electrical drawings and interpret SCADA data.
- Proficient in the use of electrical test tools (multimeter, megger, etc.).
- Familiarity with protection relays, feeder automation, and cable terminations.
- Ability to work safely around energized equipment.
- Strong reporting, escalation, and troubleshooting ability.
- Knowledge of local and international electrical standards (DEWA/ADDC/IEC/BS).
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent trade.
- Certifications: Basic Electrical Safety, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Work at Height, First Aid, SCADA & Substation Safety (for G1).
Health & Safety:
- Always wear PPE and follow approved RAMS for each task.
- Participate in toolbox talks, fire drills, and emergency exercises.
- Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Authority Matrix:
- G1: Authorized to lead maintenance, escalate major failures, validate work orders.
- G2: Authorized to perform tasks independently under approved work orders.
- G3: No independent authority; supports G2 and receives daily instructions.
