Role Overview
GreenBay is seeking a Project Lead - Business Development to lead commercial growth, revenue expansion, and sales team development in Nigeria, with Lagos as the primary base. This is a leadership role suited to a commercially sharp operator with direct experience scaling e-commerce businesses in Africa and building high-performing sales teams.
The role combines strategic business development, hands-on sales leadership, and market expansion execution, with clear accountability for revenue growth, partnerships, and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Growth
- Define and execute GreenBay’s business development and revenue growth strategy for Nigeria.
- Identify and secure high-value commercial partnerships, merchant relationships, and enterprise clients.
- Develop go-to-market strategies for new products, services, and channels within the e-commerce ecosystem.
- Own revenue targets, pipeline development, and commercial forecasting.
Sales Leadership & Team Management
- Build, hire, and manage sales and account management teams across Lagos and other strategic markets.
- Design sales structures, incentives, KPIs, and performance management systems.
- Coach and develop team leads and senior sales managers to deliver consistent results.
- Drive a disciplined, data-led sales culture focused on conversion, retention, and account growth.
E-commerce & Platform Expertise
- Leverage prior experience within major e-commerce platforms to optimise merchant acquisition, onboarding, and performance.
- Apply deep understanding of African e-commerce dynamics including logistics, payments, customer acquisition, and merchant enablement.
- Collaborate with operations, product, and marketing teams to align commercial execution with platform capabilities.
Partnerships & Market Expansion
- Represent GreenBay in senior-level negotiations with partners, vendors, and strategic stakeholders.
- Identify regional expansion opportunities and support market entry strategies beyond Lagos where relevant.
- Build long-term relationships with ecosystem players including logistics providers, payment platforms, and enterprise merchants.
Reporting & Leadership
- Report directly to senior leadership with clear performance metrics and commercial insights.
- Provide structured reporting on sales performance, pipeline health, and market trends.
- Act as a senior representative of GreenBay in the Nigerian market.
Required Experience & Profile
Essential
- Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership within e-commerce or digital platforms.
- Prior working experience at a major African e-commerce company (for example, Jumia or equivalent platforms).
- Proven track record of building, hiring, and managing sales teams in Nigeria.
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s e-commerce, consumer, and merchant landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to close large commercial deals and scale revenue.
- Experience working with senior leadership and owning P&L or revenue targets.
Desirable
- Exposure to multi-country or pan-African e-commerce operations.
- Experience working with SMEs, large merchants, and enterprise clients.
- Background in marketplace models, B2C, B2B, or hybrid e-commerce platforms.
- Strong network within Nigeria’s digital commerce ecosystem.
