About the Role
We are seeking an FP&A Associate with prior experience as a financial analyst or management consultant at a reputable firm to provide financial planning and analysis support to 7- 10 portfolio companies in the Delta40 Studio. Your role will focus on creating sophisticated financial models, unit economics analysis, conducting budget vs actual analysis, building cashflow projections, and developing business case models that enable our entrepreneurs to make data-driven decisions and successfully raise growth capital. You will be part of a team reporting to our Sr. Venture Support Manager, who, along with our fractional C-Suite resources, assists our ventures with commercial strategy, capital & finance, and strategic advisory.
Core Responsibilities
As the Delta40 Venture Studio is new, this role may change as the needs of the organization change. To begin, this role will have the following responsibilities:
Financial Modeling & Analysis
- Create sophisticated 3-statement, 5-year financial projections for portfolio companies which can be used by entrepreneurs to understand their business and successfully raise Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A rounds
- Build and maintain monthly budget vs actual analysis, identifying variances and providing insights to entrepreneurs
- Develop detailed cashflow models and forecasts to support working capital management and runway planning
- Create business case models for new products, markets, or strategic initiatives
- Calculate and track unit economics across portfolio companies and generate recommendations to improve profitability
- Analyze financial data, create impactful charts and dashboards, and draw out actionable insights
Strategic Support
- Support entrepreneurs to understand their financial models and build internal capacity to replicate similar models in the future
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and presentations for management and board meetings
- Support the Delta40 team ad hoc financial analysis requests including scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and financial benchmarking
Your Profile
You must bring 4-6 years of experience as a financial analyst, FP&A professional, or management consultant at a reputable firm and have a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. Ideally, you will also have 1-2 years of experience in a startup, entrepreneurial initiative or intrapreneurial role (side hustles count too!)
Qualifications & Experience
- Excel/Google Sheets "Wizard": previous experience independently creating 3-statement financial projections and complex financial models
- Excellent financial analysis skills: previous experience with budget vs actual analysis, variance reporting, and cashflow forecasting
- Strong data analysis capabilities: previous experience cleaning raw data and creating impactful charts, graphs, and financial dashboards
- Understanding of startup metrics: familiarity with key performance indicators, unit economics, and growth metrics relevant to early-stage ventures
- Critical thinking: ability to draw out key insights from financial data and understand what matters most to the entrepreneur and their business
- Attention to detail: practiced in self-reviewing your own work to correct errors before sharing analysis with portfolio companies
- Work authorization in Kenya: must be a Kenyan national based in or willing to relocate to Nairobi
