ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Associate will serve as a pivotal team member in our Africa division, contributing to Delta40's mission of scaling innovations across the continent to uplift incomes and combat climate change. The Associate is a pivotal member of the investment team, specializing in equity investments. Responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and managing investment opportunities, this role involves financial analysis, due diligence, and active collaboration with senior team members. The associate contributes to strategic decision-making and works closely with the ventures and portfolio companies to enhance financial performance. This position requires a strong analytical background and the ability to align investments with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
As the Delta40 Venture Studio is new, this role may change as the needs of the organisation change. To begin, this role will have the following responsibilities:
- Support early stage deal sourcing in close collaboration with the Studio Venture Partners with a focus on impact agriculture and clean energy opportunities.
- Lead the process of taking potential Studio investments through the Delta40 Investment Process.
- Conduct thorough market research, financial analysis, and competitive assessments to evaluate the viability and potential of investment opportunities.
- Complete investment memos and due diligence memos with the oversight of the Studio Venture Partners and CEO.
- Build financial models and techno economic analysis with the right granularity for the stage of business that you are investigating.
- Collaborate with other members of the investment team and the Delta40 studio to conduct founder screening.
- Stay updated on market trends, emerging technologies, and industry developments, sharing insights with the team to inform investment decisions.
- Represent Delta40 Venture Studio at conferences and pitch events.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of experience as an investment associate at a venture capital firm, preferably with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Demonstrated Excel modelling skills, ability to produce financial and pricing models.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Comfortable switching between working autonomously and in groups depending on the task.
- Positive, encouraging, collaborative attitude.
- Ability to prioritise and complete multiple tasks efficiently, without sacrificing work quality.
- Strong written and verbal English and strong presentation skills.
- Must be willing to relocate to Nairobi, Kenya and not require work sponsorship
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working at an early stage startup, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Knowledge of agriculture or clean energy space in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Undergraduate degree related to engineering, science or agriculture.
