Finance and Accounting Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Antananarivo, Madagascar
The Finance and Accounting Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all accounting activities for the program under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Finance. They will ensure compliance with CI policy and donor regulations and statutory compliance. They are involved in the maintenance of effective internal controls. They are expected to work with other accounting staff and will ensure the compliance, accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial information in Business Worlds. They will manage bank accounts and oversee payments.
The Finance and Accounting Coordinator will generate standard and ad-hoc accounting reports and analyze accounting data. S/he works closely with the program finance staff to ensure financial best practices is followed. They provide support to the Finance team, preparing donors’ cash-based financial reports and ensuring actuals are tied with the bank transactions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting:
- Manage Accounts payables transactions.
- Review and approve documentations in the AP module for satisfactory payment approval, ensuring compliance with CI policies and donor/partner requirements.
- Review Travel advance and Expenses reports, project advance reports, ensuring compliance with CI policies and donor/partner requirements.
- Initiate regular reclassifications.
- Coordinate the monthly close book.
Finance, Accounting analysis, and reports:
- Monitor balance sheet accounts.
- Support in preparing donors’ cash-based financial reports and ensuring actuals are tied with the bank transactions.
Cash Management:
- Review of timeliness collection and deposits of refunds.
- Monitor the bank accounts movements and balance.
- Monitor vendors’ payment process.
Fixed assets:
- Ensure that equipment is accurately recorded in Fixed Assets module and in the accounting module.
- Provide support on reconciliation between the inventory list and accounting information.
Other Duties:
- Assist with internal/external audit questions and requests for information at the country program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Include other duties unique or specific to the position. Responsibilities listed in this section must complement above key responsibilities and not exceed 25% of the overall job duties.
- Maintain files for open and close checking accounts, update documentation for the banks.
People and Resource Management Responsibilities
- Supervises up to three lower-level employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typical office environment. May need to work beyond normal work hours to meet reporting deadlines.
- Travel expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 2 to 4 years of experience.
- Experience in a lead support role.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, processes, and knowledge of local tax laws and other regulations
- Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical skills. Skilled in generating detailed analyses and communicating financial information to a broad audience.
- Attention to detail, highly organized, ability to prioritize and multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude, service focus, and work independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Foreign language fluency is a plus (especially French/English).
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- The ability to work as part of a team and to build strong working relationships.
- Strong attention to detail and an investigative nature.
