Mechanical and Logistics Driver

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Toliara, Madagascar

The mechanical and logistic driver is responsible for the fleet and transportation needs of the “Priceless Planet Coalition” project. In addition, they provide logistical support to help ensure the smooth and efficient logistics tasks of the assigned location(s). The amount of time devoted to these dual roles will vary according to the needs of the project, as outlined in the additional responsibilities section below.

Fleet management duties include providing and/or arranging transportation for CI staff and guests in a timely, safe, and responsible manner. They ensure CI vehicles are routinely serviced, maintained in a clean and tidy manner, and all vehicle licenses, inspections, insurance, etc., comply with local vehicle licensing and operation requirements. The Driver ensures the proper use of vehicles, monitors fuel consumption, maintains logbooks and/or maintenance manuals, and performs routine maintenance and repairs as necessary.

Logistic duties include managing supplies, providing support during meetings /events organized by the project, mail delivery, and other related duties. They do not directly manage staff, and duties are performed under direct supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide prompt and reliable transportation for CI staff and visitors. Arrange for alternative transportation as needed.
  • Facilitate visitor and staff arrival and departures to and from local airports or site locations.
  • Manage transportation needs for field trips or site visits.
  • Coordinate vehicle use and maintain logbooks and vehicle registers.
  • Ensure that all vehicles have current licenses, inspections, insurance, etc., appropriate to their use and in compliance with local laws.
  • Inspect vehicles periodically to ensure safe and reliable vehicle operation. Manage maintenance schedules and records.
  • Perform routine maintenance and small repairs as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, and monitor fuel consumption.

Logistics Duties

  • Provide logistical support for site meetings, training, and events. Ensure rooms and facilities activities are set up and in good working order. Work caterers and other meeting vendors.
  • During field travel, work with site staff to ensure site locations are accessible to staff and visitors, fully operational, and secure.
  • Procure, manage, and secure site equipment, goods and other assets. Manage stock supplies and maintain inventory lists.
  • Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Regularly inspect site equipment and provide as-needed cleaning and maintenance to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Provide support for related administrative and operational functions as directed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent travel to remote locations is required.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of normal work hours for any additional office events.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in the office as an office clerk.
  • This role will be a fixed-term assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Secondary School education
  • Up to 2 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of the sites and different roads in project areas.

Preferred

  • 2 years - Technical Diploma in Mechanics.
  • Experience as a driver and in vehicle management and maintenance.
  • Full driver’s License/Qualifications recognized in the assigned country. Experience in a field logistical support role.
  • Experience in animation and organization of rural communities.
  • Ability in communication with local communities.
  • Skill in relationships with regional actors and partners.
  • Knowledge of the sites ( Ejeda, Ampanihy, Betioky, etc) and different roads in project areas.
