Climate Fund Managers B.V. (CFM) is a leading blended finance fund manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future by investing across global emerging markets. CFM has a long-term vision to structure cutting edge financing facilities around thematic areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, water and oceans, sustainable land use, and sustainable cities. CFM is established as a joint venture between the Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks – part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa.

CFM is authorised by the AFM to act as manager (beheerder) of investment institutions and to offer participation rights in investment institutions. CFM is subject to supervision by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (Autoriteit Financiële Markten or “AFM”) and/or the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. or “DNB”)

About the Role

We are seeking a Capital Raising Executive to work for a private equity/infrastructure style fund manager with the mission to contribute to:

  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation in emerging markets
  • Poverty reduction, economic development and prosperity in emerging markets
  • To create and maintain relationships between Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and the investor community which supports CFM’s strategy of growing climate centric funds under management.

The Capital Raising Executive will be the central point in CFM regarding sourcing of new capital from institutional investors with a specific focus on Asian Markets (Singapore, China, Japan, India and others) in line with the defined fundraising strategy. This strategy comprises the raise of Climate Investor Three, CFM’s third multi-billion fund proposition, with an investment focus on Energy Transition & Power-to X Infrastructure with a focus on global emerging markets.

Central to the Job purpose is to explain to investors “what we do, why we do it, how we do it, and why it makes sense to them”. A proven track record is essential to be shortlisted.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for raising capital from a commercial/institutional investor with a specific focus on the Asian Markets (Singapore, China, Japan, India and others)
  • Identify/source investors (initiating and managing the complete investor onboarding process from identification, developing initial contacts, to guiding them through due diligence up to the execution of legal documentation)
  • Maintain relationships with existing investors/sponsors
  • Establish and manage the investor interactions programme of actual and potential investors
  • Establish and maintain a high level of ambient knowledge about the status of potential investors, such that the fund-raising actions of CFM are targeted and effective
  • Participate in relevant workshops and conferences to promote and raise awareness about CFM, CFM’s managed funds, blended finance and the financing of climate change adaptation and mitigation concepts

Qualifications and Experience

The role focuses on capital raising and business development. A financial technical understanding of the fund structure and ability to discuss these concepts with potential investors is required. Counterparts for the Capital Raising Executive are (senior) investment managers with institutional investors and placement agents. This includes explaining our investment strategy and strategic positioning, pipeline and business development, Environmental, Social and Governance aspects (ESG), including fund governance.

  • Proven track record of capital raising (preferably Private Equity/ infrastructure themed) funds
  • 10 - 15 years’ experience in distribution / capital raising preferably in the energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Honours Financial or Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Financial acumen – the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data
  • Sales and relationship management skills combined with a strong technical/financial ability to explain the mandate and concepts of CFM
  • A good knowledge of the products offered by CFM and their benefits
  • A passion for sustainable investing
  • An understanding of investors decision making processes, timelines, asset allocations and rationale
  • Competence in spreadsheet / data base applications (i.e. advanced Microsoft skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM data software
