Overview
To provide breeding analytics and decision-support for NNF project Applying modern tools to enhance precision and speed of dryland crops breeding, that translate phenotypic, genotypic, environmental, and related data into actionable insights for dryland crop breeding programs. The role supports multi-environment analysis, and data-driven decisions to improve breeding efficiency and accelerate genetic gain.
Job Description
1. Breeding Data Analysis and Interpretation
- Analyze breeding datasets.
- Conduct Multi Environment Trial (MET) and Genotype by Environment (G×E) analyses.
- Support genotype evaluation and advancement decisions.
2. Predictive Breeding and Decision Support
- Support trait prioritization and breeding decisions.
- Improve selection accuracy and breeding efficiency.
3. Data Integration and Analytical Workflows
- Prepare analysis-ready datasets.
- Develop reproducible analytical workflows.
- Ensure data and output quality.
4. Reporting, Communication and Capacity Strengthening
- Prepare reports, visualizations, and presentations.
- Communicate findings to breeding teams and partners.
- Support knowledge sharing and capacity development.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Quantitative Genetics, Data Science, Agricultural Analytics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of statistical modelling, experimental design, mixed models, and multi-environment trial analysis
- Proficiency in R
Education, Experience and Technical skills

Terms and conditions
•This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications. In Kenya, employment contracts are issued under ICRAF in compliance with Kenyan labour law. Locally recruited staff are eligible for a non-contributory pension scheme, comprehensive medical insurance, paid annual and statutory leave, and learning and development opportunities in line with CIFOR-ICRAF policies. •The appointment will be for a period of two (2) years, inclusive of a six-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources. •The duty station will be in Nairobi, Kenya.
