Market Research Project Officer -Mozambique
Sales & Business Development
Maputo, Mozambique
Duties and Responsibilities
- Data Collection & Fieldwork
- Carry out structured data collection in the field and through remote channels, following research protocols.
- Locate, contact, and schedule customers for interviews, tests, or field visits.
- Build practical execution plans (e.g., multi-day visit schedules, routing, transport arrangements).
- Support Product Managers with coordination of multiple concurrent research or pilot activities.
- Provide simple operational support: receipts, tracking, logistics, materials readiness.
- Apply structured research methods correctly: representative sampling, consistent question sequencing, and avoidance of leading or double-barrelled questions.
- Recognise and flag sources of bias in data collection and research methods
- Maintain clean, accurate datasets with traceable methodology (who was surveyed, when, how, and any deviations from protocol).
- Cross-check field/survey findings against other available data sources (e.g. CRM records, usage or telemetry data) rather than treating self-reported data as sufficient on its own.
- Support basic analysis in Excel or internal tools with attention to data quality checks (duplicates, outliers, missing data) before findings are shared.
- Produce clear, structured research notes and reports for the product team — not just raw transcripts or data dumps.
- Summarise findings with an explicit distinction between what the data shows, what is inferred, and what remains uncertain.
- Present findings in a way the internal teams can act on directly: clear headline, supporting evidence, and (where relevant) a recommendation or open question.
- Contribute to building a record of research findings over time so insights are retrievable and comparable across research cycles, not siloed in one-off documents.
- Pull customer or product information from the internal CRM to support research preparation and to contextualise findings in reports.
- Confidence collecting data and following structured research processes, including the discipline to stick to protocol under field pressure.
- A methodical mindset: comfortable thinking about sample size, representativeness, and what a finding can and can't support before presenting it as a conclusion.
- Strong written communication — able to turn field observations into a short, clear report a non-researcher can quickly understand and use.
- Digital competence: Excel, basic data handling, comfort learning internal platforms.
- Strong organisational instincts and ability to plan activities across days or weeks.
- Willingness to speak directly with customers and manage field relationships.
- Practical problem-solving in dynamic field environments.
- Reliability and attention to detail in both logistics and data.
- Diploma or degree in a relevant field (social sciences, statistics, economics, market research, business, marketing or similar)
- Prior experience in market research, field data collection, or survey enumeration
- Experience working in energy access, PAYGo, telecoms, or another sector serving low-income customers
- Prior experience using a CRM or field data collection tool (e.g. ODK, KoboToolbox, Salesforce-type systems)
- Understanding of sampling principles and common sources of bias in field research
- Ability to follow a research protocol consistently and flag deviations
- Proficiency in Excel (data cleaning, basic formulas, pivot tables)
- Familiarity with basic statistical concepts (averages, distributions, significance)
- Strong written reporting skills. Able to summarise findings clearly for a non-research audience. Strong PowerPoint skills
- Confident, professional communication with customers in field settings
- Fluent Portuguese (spoken and written)
- Working proficiency in English (for reporting to the wider team)
- Ability to plan and manage multi-day field schedules, routing, and logistics
