Strategy Intern
Nairobi, Kenya
We are looking for a highly analytical, intellectually curious intern to join the Strategy team. You will work on projects spanning market entry analysis, investment evaluation, competitor intelligence, and strategic planning. A core expectation of this role is the ability to build rigorous, insight-driven financial models that directly inform BURN's capital allocation and go-to-market decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Modelling & Quantitative Analysis
- Build robust financial models to support investment and market entry decisions across manufacturing and distribution-led entry modes
- Model full-scale manufacturing entry scenarios to evaluate build-versus-distribute trade-offs
- Build distribution-led entry models assessing unit and partner economics, route-to-market cost structures, and break-even thresholds ahead of capital commitment
- Maintain and improve existing financial frameworks and trackers used by the strategy team
- Research and size addressable markets across Africa synthesising primary and secondary data sources
- Conduct competitive landscape analyses covering product, pricing and distribution positioning
- Support preparation of investment memoranda, board materials, and strategic planning documents
- Contribute to market entry sequencing frameworks - structuring the analytical basis for when to enter distribution-first versus committing to manufacturing from the outset
- Contribute to site-selection and evaluations for manufacturing entry, including lease economics, utility costs, and regulatory incentive modelling
- Synthesise findings into concise, visually compelling presentations for senior leadership
- Interdepartmental coordination to gather data inputs and validate model assumptions
- Participate in strategy reviews and project postmortems, contributing analytical perspective to team discussions
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related quantitative field
- Demonstrable proficiency in financial modelling in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working with incomplete or ambiguous data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations
- High attention to detail and intellectual rigour
