We’re looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial technology leader to join our technology team as a Software Product Manager. The Software PM will work closely with the engineering team at BasiGo to develop technology products and solutions that revolutionize the customer experience for our electric bus passengers, drivers, owners, and financiers.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage the entire product life cycle of a breakthrough software technology product for sustainable public transport in Africa including market research, specification development, product development and evolution, and product marketing across BasiGo’s markets
- Develop insights into market needs and customer requirements through customer and market research, data analysis, and competitive landscaping.
- Be the “voice of the customer” to internal stakeholders by translating customer needs into a clear product value proposition, competitive position, business case, and user requirements that align to BasiGo’s mission and business objectives.
- Represent the product vision, business case, and roadmap to senior management and earn their buy-in through a compelling product pitch.
- Facilitate cross-functional product teams to define user stories, user requirements, technical requirements, and a product roadmap to ensure that product/features delivered are within scope and meet business objectives.
- Project management of software product development, launch, and refinement in the market including task tracking, prioritization, and management of cross-functional deliverables. We expect our PM’s to move quickly and prioritize ruthlessly!
- Design experiments, data exploration, user feedback, and market research to inform project prioritization and feature design. Prioritize ruthlessly, don't be afraid of saying no, champion progress over perfection.
- Keep the senior management and the broader company up to date on product development progress, product performance in the market, and threats and opportunities to the business objectives of the product.
- Work with key business stakeholders to identify opportunities for software to positively impact our customers and the business.
- Prepare and facilitate the key conversations and meetings that promote stakeholder engagement and ensure project progress.
- Ensure comprehension and competence of the team with new tools; take feedback critically and iterate for an exceptional user experience.
Experience and Required Skills:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a Business Field
- Minimum of 5 years of product management experience and launching at least 3 software or data products.
- Demonstrated experience in customer research for B2B software products
- Demonstrated ability to learn new product areas quickly and successfully drive product expansion into new demographics.
- Experience with both agile and waterfall product development processes and the associated development tools - Jira (or similar tools), Confluence, Github.
- Experience managing technology business relationships with suppliers and partners.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex systems at scale and a proven intuition for designing robust tools and processes that can adapt quickly and grow.
- Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
- Strong project management and facilitation skills with the ability to lead teams to solve problems.
- Outstanding communication skills with an ability to explain technical concepts to a business audience.
Desired Skills:
- Entrepreneurial mindset and passion are a must.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with a strong ability to prioritize.
- Good working knowledge of software systems and software engineering principles.
- Ability to manage multiple products with diverse stakeholders.
- Direct experience working in the transport sector in Africa is a plus.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up decisions, assumptions and develop business cases.
- An understanding of Human Centred Design and working UX/UI experience
