Senior / Principal Carbon Advisor
Anthesis Group
You will lead the sale of high-quality carbon credits to South African and international buyers. You will originate and close deals for both the South African Carbon Tax offsets market and the voluntary carbon market. You will own the full commercial process, from prospecting to contract signature, and help shape our go-to-market approach.

Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage a qualified pipeline of carbon credit buyers in South Africa and internationally.
- Lead carbon credit sales for SA Carbon Tax offset use, including advising buyers on: offset eligibility, limits, documentation, evidence requirements, and procurement processes.
- Sell credits into the voluntary market, matching buyers to suitable projects, vintages, and standards.
- Lead buyer outreach: prospecting, meetings, proposals, and negotiation.
- Structure and close spot trades and offtake agreements, working with internal legal and finance.
- Develop pricing strategies and deal terms, informed by market intelligence and project constraints.
- Assist in preparing sales materials: teasers, buyer packs, pricing sheets, term summaries, and contract handover notes.
- Maintain disciplined pipeline tracking and forecasting (CRM use is essential).
- Coordinate with project teams to confirm credit availability and delivery schedules.
- Respond to buyer due diligence queries (methodology, MRV, safeguards, registry processes).
- Build partnerships with brokers, platforms, and intermediaries where this accelerates sales.
- Represent Anthesis at relevant market forums and events to generate demand.
- Occasional travel locally and internationally.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MPhil, MSc, MCom, or equivalent relevant Master’s).
- Proven working knowledge of South Africa’s Carbon Tax and offsets (practical buyer-facing competence, not theoretical awareness).
- 3+ years’ experience in carbon markets, climate finance, environmental markets, or related commercial roles with corporate clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and buyer-facing presentations.
- Commercial track record required: candidates must show evidence of commercial outcomes (e.g., contracts negotiated, revenue influenced/closed, buyer pipeline owned, or equivalent deal accountability).
- Strong commercial judgement: pricing, negotiation, and deal structuring.
- Confident engaging senior stakeholders (CFO, sustainability, tax, procurement).
- Highly organised, process-driven, and comfortable with CRM and reporting.
- Ability to translate technical carbon concepts into plain language.
