Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities
The Senior Data Analyst will play a key role in supporting Anthesis’s carbon project data operations. This role involves working with large and complex environmental datasets to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of carbon emission models that underpin our carbon credit generation for our regenerative farming and nature base projects in South Africa and internationally.
This will be a 12 month fixed term contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, and prepare datasets from multiple sources for analysis and modelling.
- Monitor data quality received from project partners and clients.
- Support the running, validation, and enhancement of carbon emission models.
- Conduct data analysis, generate insights, and visualise outputs using BI tools (e.g. Power BI).
- Assist with GIS-related tasks, including data preparation, spatial analysis, and map generation to support project delivery.
- Perform quality assurance checks and contribute to model accuracy improvements.
- Support the migration of carbon models and data pipelines to our Azure-based cloud platform.
- Contribute to the technical documentation of methodologies, data dictionaries, and process workflows.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, white papers, and presentations.
Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise
- Degree in Scientific, Analytical, or Technical discipline, preferably with exposure to environmental or agricultural systems..
- Strong skills in data cleaning, analysis, and visualisation (Python, R, SQL, or similar).
- Working knowledge of Power BI or other data intelligence tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and analyse large datasets with precision and attention to detail.
- High attention to detail, curiosity for problem-solving, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver under pressure.
- A portfolio of completed analytical projects (professional or self-generated, e.g. GitHub, Kaggle, etc.).
Desirable:
- Understanding of carbon accounting, emission modelling, or agricultural datasets.
- Familiarity with GIS software tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS .
- Familiarity with Azure, data pipelines, or cloud-based model management.
- Experience with carbon credit standards (e.g. Verra) or sustainability reporting frameworks.
