Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Project Development:
- Assist in the development of carbon projects from feasibility assessment to issuance, under the guidance of senior team members.
- Support scoping, methodology research, project documentation, and coordination of validation and verification processes.
- Help ensure compliance with relevant carbon standards (Verra VC & Gold Standard) and contribute to monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) activities.
- Contribute to drafting project documentation and coordinate with third-party service providers, including validators, verifiers, and consultants. Technical Support
- Learn and apply carbon methodologies relevant to agriculture, land use, or energy sectors.
- Assist in reviewing and interpreting technical information, emerging methodologies, and scientific literature to support project integrity.
- Develop technical writing skills and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Support engagement with landowners, farmers, community representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in data gathering and coordination for farmer or community engagement processes (e.g. AgriCarbon programme).
- Represent Anthesis in meetings or events when required, with preparation and oversight from senior colleagues.
Commercial & Strategic Support
- Provide input to new project opportunities by researching and summarising technical risks, timelines, and potential carbon credit yields.
- Contribute to client proposals, presentations, and business development efforts where technical support is needed.
Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise
- Less than 2 years of experience in carbon project development, environmental science, climate change mitigation, or a related field.
- Some exposure to carbon standards (Verra, Gold Standard, or equivalent) through academic, internship, or junior professional work.
- Interest in climate finance, carbon markets, and sustainability.
- Ability to work across disciplines, with a willingness to learn agricultural, forestry, energy, waste, etc
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English; Afrikaans or other South African languages advantageous.
- South African citizen or permanent resident
