Summary of role:
Sustainable production & consumption is a growth area within the Anthesis global footprint, and we are looking to expand our UK team as part of our EMELA and global strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity for impact-led consultants to be able to support the wider Anthesis Impact Target and to drive real change in design, manufacturing, supply chains, consumer behaviours and circularity.
We are in a critical period of transition for the waste and recycling sector in aligning with existing circular economy ambitions, as well as net zero ambitions. A key component of this will be how the waste sector transforms into a material recovery agent, producing low carbon circular commodities within supply chains. This will have significant value in reducing the direct emissions from waste processing activities and providing added benefits by helping to avoid scope 3 emissions within product supply chains. How these benefits are valued and incentivised is an evolving regulatory and policy area and draws together upstream product design policies, direct emissions reduction frameworks (e.g., UK ETS) and downstream waste derived product incentives.
We are looking for candidates who share our passion to make a difference within this transitionary period, supporting clients to make informed decisions on how to maximise the value of waste within a circular and carbon related context.

To sustain the growth in activity in our service area, from both domestic and global clients, we are seeking additional support to meet our clients’ needs and drive forward new offerings. Candidates will have proven expertise in waste and resource management, circular economy thinking, and the linkages with carbon related policies. The successful candidate will be delivering across a diverse and dynamic portfolio to advance sustainable production and consumption ambitions for clients. Candidates will have the ambition to learn fast in an evolving policy and regulatory landscape and support clients to do the same.
Key requirements:
The ideal applicant will have relevant experience, a consulting background, and a keen grasp of the technical requirements of the role. They will be expected to keep abreast of changing circular economy and carbon related policy areas and implement strategic and tactical initiatives in response to emerging opportunities.
Minimum qualifications or experience
- Environment/sustainability degree or engineering, science, economics degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Working knowledge of the UK waste & resource sector and circularity, including the carbon agenda and sustainable products.
- Analytical skills and strong MS Excel competency (waste and resource flow modelling, carbon analysis of waste).
- A focus on the waste sector transition and carbon related policies and impacts.
- A commercial understanding of waste value chains.
- An understanding of emerging technologies and their downstream product markets (waste to fuels / advanced recycling).
- High quality and professional report writing (MS Word, MS PowerPoint).
- Business development and networking.
Desirable skills
- A strong understanding of the waste sector’s integration into wider supply chains and secondary material markets. In particular, links between secondary commodity producers (recyclers) and off-takers (brands / manufacturers).
- Knowledge of the potential benefits of recycling and recovery in producing low carbon commodities that have value in reducing scope 3 emissions within product supply chains.
- An understanding of waste / product related LCA.
- An international perspective.
- An additional language would be an advantage.
Personal attributes and qualities
- Output driven and accountable
- Flexible and innovative
- Self-motivated and collaborative
