About the Role
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving daily meals, snacks, and beverages for Ampersand staff and visitors. The role requires maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety while ensuring meals are prepared and served on time.
Key Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation and Cooking
- Prepare daily meals, snacks, and beverages according to the company meal schedule.
- Prepare a variety of healthy and well-balanced meals for staff and visitors.
- Follow recipes and ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation.
- Prepare both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals when required.
- Support the preparation of meals and refreshments for meetings, workshops, and company events.
2. Kitchen Hygiene and Cleanliness
- Keep the kitchen, cooking areas, utensils, and equipment clean and organized.
- Clean and properly store kitchen utensils, appliances, and equipment after use.
- Follow food hygiene and safety standards at all times.
- Ensure food is properly stored, covered, labeled, and handled to prevent contamination and spoilage.
- Maintain proper waste disposal and cleanliness within the kitchen area.
3. Food and Kitchen Supplies
- Assist with checking available food supplies and report shortages to the Kitchen Manager or responsible person.
- Use food supplies responsibly and minimize waste.
- Ensure ingredients are properly stored and used before expiry.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment promptly.
4. Meal Service and Hospitality
- Ensure meals are ready and served on time.
- Maintain a clean and presentable serving area.
- Support hospitality arrangements for staff, visitors, meetings, and company events.
- Provide friendly and professional service to staff and guests.
5. Health and Safety
- Follow all kitchen health, safety, and food hygiene procedures.
- Handle knives, cooking equipment, hot surfaces, and electrical appliances safely.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment issues immediately.
Minimum Requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Food and Beverage, or a related field is an advantage.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cook or in a similar kitchen role.
- Good knowledge of food preparation and cooking.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices.
- Ability to prepare a variety of meals.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well with others as part of a kitchen team.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
