Ampersand is a pioneer provider of electric motorcycles and charging infrastructure (battery swap stations), especially for motorcycle taxi drivers. Moto taxis are a primary means of public transport in African cities, and it is estimated that these drivers spend >$6Bn p.a. on fuel alone in East Africa. The company started in Kigali, Rwanda and expanded into Nairobi, Kenya in 2023. Today it has ~1,300 e-motorcycles on the road and 30 battery swap stations. About The Role

Ampersand manages a fleet of batteries that our moto drivers change at one of our many Swap Stations. These batteries are used by more than 1000 vehicles across multiple countries, which make close to 3 million km every month and swapped thousands of times a day. We are on our way to release more than 3000 batteries and vehicles this year in Rwanda

The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for defining and ensuring that all products assembled (vehicles and batteries) meet the company's quality standards and that all manufacturing processes are consistent with those standards. You will work closely with other departmental managers to identify opportunities for process improvements and alignment. This role will report to the Senior Production Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor production processes to ensure that they comply with quality standards
• Analyze quality control data, identify trends, and recommend process improvements to increase product quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate with other departmental managers to align production processes and ensure that they are consistent with quality standards and objectives across the organization.

• Communicate quality control results and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders as necessary, such as R&D and After Sales and Supply Chain
• Lead, manage, guide and support a team of quality control technicians and production engineers to ensure above tasks are accomplished
• Define, develop and implement a comprehensive quality control program in the key production departments - vehicle assembly, fabrication and battery assembly

  Develop and maintain quality control procedures, including inspection checklists, testing procedures, and overall QC documentation.

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, managing a quality control program in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze quality control data, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of quality control processes, regulations, and standards, including ISO certifications and documentation control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Expertise in production processes, quality management. Six Sigma certification is a plus.

• Fluency in English is mandatory; Kinyarwanda and Swahili would be a plus
