Project Cost Controller
AltGen is looking for a Project Cost Controller to join a renewable energy EPC based in Cape Town. The role will work closely with the Finance Manager and Project Managers to oversee project cost control across the South African business unit. This role reports directly to the Finance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Early-Stage Projects (Gate 0–4)
- Support the Business Development team with commercial proposals and stakeholder engagement.
- Prepare financial inputs and cost models, ensuring a smooth handover of knowledge to the Business Development team.
- Help de-risk projects by ensuring commercial terms, financial metrics and cash flow meet business standards.
- Support project handovers from Gate 3 to Gate 4, including risk management and contingency planning.
Project Cost Control
- Manage cost control across renewable energy construction projects.
- Monitor budgets against actual costs, prepare forecasts and report on variances.
- Work with Project Managers to forecast costs to completion.
- Prepare project cash flow forecasts and manage contractual revenue claims.
- Review and approve project-related expenditure.
Budgeting & Planning
- Assist with project budgets, cash flow forecasts and EPC/O&M tender submissions.
- Support project bids, business planning and profitability through effective financial controls.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, contingencies and variation orders, and prepare ad hoc reports.
Reporting & Compliance
- Produce accurate and timely project reports for local and group reporting.
- Keep management informed of project performance and forecast variances.
- Prepare financial and commercial reports to support decision-making.
- Support regulatory compliance, approvals and guarantee planning.
- Provide ad hoc support as required.
Requirements
- BCom degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 5–7 years' of experience in a finance role
- 3 years of experience in project accounting, cost control, or project finance
- Experience in the renewable energy, construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors is preferred
- Strong understanding of IFRS
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills
