B. The Role in Context
Communications Officer
Purpose of the job
The Communications Officer will play a key role in shaping and executing GreenCo’s communication strategy, ensuring that the organization’s brand, messaging, and engagement efforts are effectively managed across multiple platforms. The officer will be responsible for enhancing GreenCo’s visibility, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and strategically positioning the organization as a leader in the energy sector.
This role requires a dynamic professional with strong media relations, content development, and strategic communication skills. The Communications Officer will oversee internal and external communications, digital media management, stakeholder outreach, and brand management. Additionally, they will lead event coordination, develop compelling content, and support knowledge-sharing initiatives to drive GreenCo’s mission forward.
Key duties of the Communications Officer:
- Team Management
The Communications Officer will provide strategic direction and oversee daily operations within the communications team, including:
- Capacity building of partners, brand building and management, media relations, events, dissemination plans, procurement, contracting, and daily planning.
- Ensuring adherence to set timelines and deadlines for delivery.
- Leading annual and quarterly planning for the communications unit, including budget and key performance indicators.
2. Strategic Communications Support
- Develop and implement a communications strategy that will advance programmatic objectives.
- Provide strategic and programmatic advice on communication strategies and products for project partners.
- Identify proactive opportunities to communicate GreenCo’s impact through various communication formats such as short documentaries, podcasts, high-quality images, blogs, animations, and infographics.
- Assist in developing a social media strategy and managing content across various digital platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
- Conduct hashtag research and trend analysis to enhance audience engagement.
3. Content Development & Digital Media Management
- Develop and manage content for GreenCo’s social media platforms, ensuring alignment with company branding.
- Develop video and audio storytelling content, including short documentaries, podcasts, infographics, and animations.
- Contribute to the development of research papers, case studies, and industry reports.
- Oversee social media engagement, monitor comments and messages, and track audience interactions.
- Monitor social media activities and industry trends to refine digital engagement strategies.
- Support the collection and organization of engagement data from social media posts, providing insights on content performance.
4. Stakeholder Outreach & Event Coordination
- Organize and manage internal and external events, including venue booking, branding, and guest/media invitations.
- Assist in updating and maintaining accurate stakeholder contact lists for outreach and engagement.
- Maintain media, partner, and industry contact lists in an organized database.
5. Media Liaison
- Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and international media houses.
- Prepare articles and press releases for media engagement.
- Manage media outreach, including journalist briefings and press events.
- Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships within the business media community.
6. Brand Management
- Ensure all communications adhere to GreenCo and partner branding guidelines.
- Maintain and support the continued development of GreenCo’s credibility and branding across various communication platforms.
7. File Organization & Internal Support
- Maintain press materials, images, and brand assets for easy access.
- Support internal and external newsletter development, including content curation and formatting.
- Provide general communications assistance as needed, including the production of branded materials and publications.
8. Additional Activities
- Provide input into procurement scopes of work for strategic communication projects.
- Assist with corporate branding efforts and content formatting.
- Support knowledge management and learning within GreenCo’s programs.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
C. Qualifications and Competencies
The Communications Officer will be expected to bring a combination of the following experience, personal attributes, and qualifications:
Qualifications:
- University degree in communications, public relations, marketing, international development, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, knowledge management, public relations, or a related field.
- experience in strategic communications, social media management, or public relations.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to create succinct executive communications materials and social media content.
- Language proficiency in English is required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience using social media platforms (Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp) for corporate engagement.
- Familiarity with design and content creation tools such as Canva, Visio, Adobe InDesign, or other graphic design software is preferred.

D. Time Commitment
This is a full-time role and whilst the normal working week is 40 hours, it is expected that the ideal candidate will be prepared to both work and travel as required to fulfil the objectives of the business.
